New Portfolio Website!

As you have probably noticed, this website has fallen into disrepair! The webcomic doesn’t update! The links are outdated! What is Emi doing?! Where are her priorities?! Well, I hear you. Because Owlex is no longer my main focus, I’ve stopped posting on this website which has really been built around the webcomic. Rather than disappear from the internet completely, however, I am slowly building a new site at emigennis.com!

At my new website, I will begin posting news in the blog to update you on all my current projects and upcoming events as well as eventually uploading some of my comics for your viewing pleasure. For now, content on the site is pretty sparse, but if you go check it out occasionally in the upcoming months I assure you that you will see it grow.

I have recently updated the More Art page of this here website! Now you can find some illustrations I’ve done recently, as well as some sample pages from SPAZ! #4. I haven’t got any of the full stories up, but it should be enough to give you an idea of what kind of content my newest minicomic covers. Last Strip For The Foreseeable Future

I had this strip lying around from months ago, and thought I’d put it up now, as it is summer-y and therefore seasonally appropriate. I have no intention at this time of continuing Owlex (although I may come back to it at some point, some day). I’m currently working on reformatting this website to act more as a blog/portfolio. If you’re interested, you can find the minicomics I’ve been doing in lieu of this webcomic right here in my new Etsy shop.

Share or Die Books Available!

As many of you know, I recently contributed to Shareable.net as part of a project called Share or Die. The project is a collection of essays and art by 20-somethings describing their experience as youths in this less than ideal economic climate. This project is now finished, and a $15 PDF version of the book is available right here! I know a lot of creative and talented people worked very hard on this so you should really go check out the finished product. A free online version is also available!

New Store!

I’ve just arrived back from HeroesCon in Charlotte, NC where I finally got to debut my new minicomic, SPAZ! #4! I’ve been working on these new stories for several months now and I’m very excited about this. This newest issue of my ongoing series is twenty pages long (almost twice as long as any of the first three issues) and full of the stories I’ve made since moving down here to Savannah to attend SCAD. It’s certainly the best issue of SPAZ! so far so you guys should check it out.

To celebrate my new minicomic coming out I set myself up a new store on Etsy. It’s kind of an experiment to see if I like Etsy better than what i’m using now. If you visit my new Etsy store, not only will you find new issues of SPAZ! #4 available, but you will also find a short minicomic I made in March called The Collyer Brothers. The Collyer story is one of the Wikipedia List of Unusual Deaths stories that i’ve been working on, and the story turned out to be so long that I thought it deserved it’s own minicomic.

For the time being, my old store is also still functional and has issues of SPAZ! #4 for sale also, so you can still use that, if you prefer.

Conventions!

I’m going convention crazy this year! Well, relative to last year anyway. I had a great time at MoCCA with my friends Dave and Chris. I made some new comics friends and hung out with old comics friends and even made a few dollars for beer. It was the first time I’d tabled at MoCCA and while it wasn’t the most lucrative show, I’d call it a success anyway.

I’ve got a few more conventions coming up: tomorrow I will be in Athens, GA for FLUKE! It’ll be my first time going to this show and I’m pretty excited. As usual, I’ll be selling comics for $1 (that’s a 50% discount from what they go for on the website!) and I’ll have copies of SPAZ! #1-3, as well as a new minicomic with a story pulled from the Wikipedia List of Unusual Deaths that we all know I love so much.

I will also be at HeroesCon in June with a few of my SCAD buddies. I won’t be exhibiting there technically, but I’m sure you’ll be able to find me hanging around the SCAD booth or wandering around gawking at people in superhero costumes. With any luck, I’ll be done with SPAZ #4 by then (no promises).

A little later on in the year I’m planning on heading up to Bethesda again for SPX in September, and I’m still considering going to the Philly Alternative Comic Con in August. Not sure about that last one. If you went last year, or are planning on going this year, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Kyle’s Awesome Owlex Tattoo!

So I thought this was pretty cool: My friend Kyle (who is the inspiration for the character of the same name in Owlex), wanted a tattoo of an owl and recently had me draw her a little Owlex, which is now permanently drawn on her body. It’s pretty cool to see my work on someone’s skin and I’m absolutely honored that she thinks it’s good enough to be there. Kyle and her boyfriend Ben came down to Savannah to see me recently, which was a ton of fun, and I got to take this picture of Kyle’s sweet new ink:

How awesome is that?!?! So awesome, is how awesome that is.

Sorry dudes, I know Owlex hasn’t been updating. Honestly, I don’t know when it will next, if ever. It’s kind of on an indefinite hiatus as of right now. I just have so many other projects I’m working on at the moment – most importantly, revamping this website to look a little more professional. I promise you will be the first to know when my new work will be available!
