ABOUT EMI: Emi Gennis is a recent graduate of the University of Chicago and has two terribly useless degrees as a result. She is now earning a meager living waiting tables in Chicago while she thinks about applying to graduate school for yet another useless degree. In her free time she makes comics that are occasionally collected in a minicomic series she likes to call SPAZ! which you can buy at her store. Emi lives in a West side apartment with four cats and three dogs. Oh, and some other people live there also. Sometimes these people show up in her comics, although most of the storylines are made up. You are welcome to email her about stuff if you’d like. You should also feel free to follow her on Twitter or read her blog where she talks about comics she’s reading.
Please also feel free to email Emi regarding just about anything you like at spazcomix@gmail .com
ABOUT OWLEX: Emi lost a friend to suicide a while ago and she took the whole experience pretty poorly. Some friends and a few counselors suggested she deal with her grief through art and thus the concept for Owlex was born. The characters and settings in the comic were originally based on real people and locations, but since then the comic has taken on a life of it’s own and is almost entirely fictional. The story in Owlex is that of a twenty-something girl living in Chicago in an apartment building where some of her friends also live. Her roommate used to be this guy until he died, but his spirit sort of stuck around and now they occasionally get into shenanigans. He’s also obligated to check in with Hell occasionally where he hangs out with this hedgehog named Kevin. They also get into shenanigans. It makes sense, I swear. Owlex is drawn with technical pens on bristol board, which is incredibly primitive, but Emi’s computer refuses to run Photoshop so until further notice that’s what she’s working with. This comic will be updated on Tuesdays (and Thursdays when Emi’s feeling CRAZY).
P.S. It was really hard to write this in the third person and now that I’m reading it, it sounds completely asinine but fixing it would take too much effort. Sorry dudes.
